Microsoft Sees 54 Percent Drop in Zune Revenue


Microsoft’s Q4 2008 filing with Securities and Exchange Commission indicates that the company’s Zune sales revenue was down by $100 million compared to same period in 2007. This is 54 percent drop in Zune product related revenue from last year. Lower sales of new Zune models have been blamed for this decrease. HTC Announces Touch Cruise with Geotagging App Called Footprints


HTC announced their new Touch Cruise smartphone that is both smaller and sleeker than the previous Touch model. The phone will feature a 2.8-inch touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera, 512MB Flash ROM, 256MB RAM, microSD card slot, HSPA (900/1200MHz), Quad-band GSM/EDGE, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi b/g and A-GPS. Apple Files Patent Application for Audio Sensor and Self-Cleaning Audio Jack


Two audio related patent applications from Apple were published today. In the first patent application, Apple proposes use of audio sensors to automatically adjust audio output based on surrounding environments for devices like TV, laptop and mobile phone. “For instance, a user who adjusts the volume of a mobile phone ringtone for a loud environment may later move to a quieter environment, where the loud ring will be disruptive,” Apple explains in the patent application. Apple Posts Record $1.61 Billion Profit in Q1 2009


Apple today announced financial results for its fiscal 2009 first quarter ended December 27, 2008. The Company posted record revenue of $10.17 billion and record net quarterly profit of $1.61 billion, or $1.78 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $9.6 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.58 billion, or $1.76 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 34.7 percent, equal to the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 46 percent of the quarter’s revenue. Read More

Asus to Add HyperSpace Instant-on OS to Its Mobile Lineup for a Annual Fee


Asus has formed a partnership with Phoenix Technologies to provide HyperSpace instant-on operating environment for its mobile PC lineup. HyperSpace will offer Asus notebook and netbook users fast access to Internet based applications while Windows optionally continues to boot in the background. Intel Lowers CPU Prices, Launches Low-Power Quad CPUs and Plans to Introduce Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage Platform


Intel on Monday introduced three new high-efficiency quad-core processors. The new processors will use just 65W of power versus the usual 95W required by desktop processors. According to Intel, low energy requirement of the new CPU will not only make them eco-friendly, but also more space efficient. The top of the line 2.83GHz Core 2 Quad Q9550s will have 12MB L2 cache and will be priced $369. The second processor in the lineup will be 2.66GHz Core 2 Quad Q9400s that will have 6MB of L2 cache for $320.
