Latest data from research firm Strategy Analytics show that Apple has captured second place in global smartphone market overtaking RIM. Initial Hands-on Impressions of New MacBook Air


Yesterday, Apple released their new completely redesigned MacBook Air, featuring solid-state flash storage in place of hard drive and instant-on capability. The new MacBook Air comes in two models with 11-inch and 13-inch screen and up to 7 hours of battery life. Hardware configuration of 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) model is 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA 320M graphics and 64GB or 128GB storage.   • Steve is showing new MacBook Air introductory video.
  • The new MacBook AIR start at $999. You get 1.4GHz processor, 2GB RAM and 64GB storage. For $1,199 you get 128Gb storage. The 13.3-inch model comes with 1.86GHz processor and is priced $1,299 for 128GB storage and $1,599 for 256GB storage.
  • Along with 13.3-inch model Apple is introducing a 11.6 inch model that weigh just 2.3 pounds. 11.6-inch model has same hardware configuration as 13.3-inch model.
  • MacBook Air has no optical or hard drive. The hard drive is replaced by Apple designed flash storage. The MacBook Air has 7 hours battery life and 30 days standby compared to 3 hours offer by similar notebooks.
  • The new Air has 13.3 inch screen 1440 x900, Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA 320M graphics and FaceTime camera.
  • Apple introduces new MacBook Air and it is 0.68 -inch thick at the thickest point and only 0.11-inch thick at the thinnest. It has full unibody construction.
  • One More thing, Apple will bring features found on iPad to other mobile devices.
  • Apple will release Mac App Store for Snow Leopard within 90 days and developers can submit app in November.

Andy Rubin’s Tweet Proves Steve Jobs was Right About Android Openness


At Apple’s financial results call yesterday, CEO Steve Jobs questioned Android’s openness and called Android “fragmented” rather than open platform. Apple News: iTunes Subscription Service, 7-inch iPad Ready, and Orders for Qualcomm CDMA iPhone Chip


New York Post is reporting that Apple is working on iTunes subscription service. The new service will provide customers unlimited access to complete iTunes catalog for a monthly fee of $10 to $15. Claire Atkinson of NY Post wrote, “Apple iTunes boss Eddy Cue was on the phone with music honchos as recently as a few weeks ago trying to figure out how the partners can move forward. One top music exec said the labels are supportive of the idea and believe it could re-energize digital music sales.” NY post didn’t say when this subscription service is coming.

Smaller 7-inch iPad Model Coming in Q1 2011


The third Apple related rumor of the day comes courtesy of Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brain White, who is in Asia talking to various component suppliers for Apple products. He is reporting that next iteration of the iPad will debut in first quarter of 2011 and it will have a smaller 7-inch screen compared to 9.7-inch on current iPad model. The 7-inch screen will be high-resolution, Retina display like the iPhone 4. The iPad will also have a micro or mini USB, a camera and up to 128GB storage.
